The Living Sisters: "Double Knots"

to avoid apologizing again
for songs that are not so lovey-dovey
or uplifting... here is one for the
i heart you mix cd. give it to the
one who ties you up in double knots
and they'll be sure to swoon.

...
ooo ooo ooo
ooooooooooo

i wanna take my baby's shoes off
i wanna sing him a rock and roll
i wanna prove i've got it big
i wanna jump in the water
take off all our clothes

i wanna walk down to the boulevard
i wanna buy a candy bar
i'm going to drink two martini
jump in the fire
i'm gonna get burned

chorus:
my baby ties me up in double knots
[3x]
hey, hey
he's gonna loosen me up

i'm gonna turn my baby's lights down
i'm gonna sing him a sizzlin' soul
i'm gonna prove i'm ready to fight now
wanna jump in the water
take off all our clothes

chorus: [repeats]
...

loving these three girls
and this wonderful song and
its wonderful lyrics here.

so many memories and former flames
wrapped up in this one for me...

like the first night we went out
together and i made you jump into
the freezing cold river from the bridge
by my house. and warmed you up with
a cup of tea in my living room with
a california soul record spinning.

or the night we went to a party up
in that cow pasture and i got my arms
all cut up and burnt myself trying to
prove whatever it was stoking the giant
bonfire and we cleaned up in the river
the next morning.

and finally, on this "warm" by
winter standards sunny day, this
track makes me feel like i'm down
at the boardwalk on a hot summer
night with my beau... not that i have
one or live anywhere
near a boardwalk...
but hey,
a girl can pretend. right?

Kevin Drew: "Love vs. Porn"

Well, I woke up and my mouth was a little dry
So I grabbed the moisturizer and tried not to cry

Spoke to my hand and then started to dream

You came into my bed and I tied you up

We went underneath and I taught you the cup
While people were watching how you and me breathed

And I got lost in the warm

And I got lost in the hole
And I got lost in the arms

The softness I'd stolen was never round to be loved

So, I got addicted to watching the screen

That kids today are kept pictures sex clean

And all the time the body slowly broke apart

No one knows any more how to cum inside

It's all about the dirt we hide in our pride

And tissues become a slow and wasted heart

We'll get lost in the warm

We'll get lost in the hole

We'll get lost in our arms

The softness we stole was never about the love

Ladies on the screen can never replicate

All the fatty lines where the skin ought to take

We must fool our eyes before we even kiss

The joy, the joy used to be in all the books

Kids today think that hookers are the hook

And that hearts beat better in a bed when they're missed

And they'll get lost in the warm

And they'll get lost in the hole

And they'll get lost in the arms

The softness they stole will never ever be able to love

...

awkwardly appealing.
the whole i, we'll, they'll...

why is that he assumes this
progression?
it already happened?

either way, the best thing about being
in love, what i hope for, and what i think
a lot of people hope for, is being loved.
porn can't love you back.

but, wait,
"there's this rushing river that, unless
given an outlet, will build up and eventually
erupt..." that rushing river being the
masculinity of the men in the middle ages
and the outlet, despite the laws against
adultery, was obviously a prostitute.
fast forward hundreds of years,
they still have prostitutes,
plus they have porn.

another bettye levette moment...
i really did hear someone on the history
channel say that as i was writing this.
i'm watching "sex in the bible",
which is more like sexually charged hypocrites
finding any way possible to get laid.

i digress.

Bon Iver: "Skinny Love"

Come on skinny love just last the year
Pour a little salt we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer

I tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right in the moment this order's tall

I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
In the morning I'll be with you
But it will be a different "kind"
I'll be holding all the tickets
And you'll be owning all the fines

Come on skinny love what happened here
Suckle on the hope in lite brassiere
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full; so slow on the split

I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
Now all your love is wasted?
Then who the hell was I?
Now I'm breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines

Who will love you?
Who will fight?
Who will fall far behind?

...

i had to listen to this about
ten times the first day i listened
to it. i have a thing for repeat,
but i really had a thing for
repeating this song. very convincing.
he must have gotten really cold
in wisconsin that winter.

not so random side note:
neverending boy once spent a night
out in wisconsin with bon iver.
what he learned from him was
that wisconsin is the place to go
if you want hugs from famous people.
they were supposed to go hunting
together the next day...

Michael Franti and Spearhead: "I Got Love for You"

Another morning has come and the sun is high
But I know that today is the day that I might cry
Because I know you’re going
And I know you’re leaving
To somewhere you hope to find the peace of mind you’re seeking

In the back of a greyhound bus, it’ll take you far
In the back of a greyhound bus you can be who you are

And I say
La-la-la La-la-la La-la-la La-la-la La La
I got love for you
I got love for you

So I’ll be waiting my dear u-huh
Waiting right here u-huh
Waiting my dear u-huh
Waiting right here u-huh

I remember the time back when we was home
In and out up and down in this life what a crazy road
It’s been a long time that I shoulda said what I tell now
That I got faith in you
And I believe in you

In the dark of the night in the hotel when you’re alone
In the middle of the city where nobody cares to know
On the top of the town in the glimmer of the shining lights
You just shine on now
You just shine on now

And I say
La-la-la La-la-la La-la-la La-la-la La La
I got love for you
I got love for you

So I’ll be waiting my dear u-huh
Waiting right here u-huh
Waiting right here u-huh

And I’ve got love for you - love for you - love for you

And I know that you can’t say for sure when you’re coming home
But I got faith in you
And I believe in you

And I say
La-la-la La-la-la La-la-la La-la-la La La
I got love for you
I got love for you

Another evening’s come and the moon is high
But I know that tonight is the night that I might cry
Because I know you’re going
And I know you’re leaving
To somewhere you hope to find the peace of mind you’re seeking

In the back of a greyhound bus, it’ll take you far
In the back of a greyhound bus you can be who you are
