Inner Circle: "You Make Me Feel Brand New" (Stylistics cover)

no need for lyrics with videos like
this one... photo above of stylistics
and video streaming inner circle's version
of this precious track

...

My love, I'll never find the words, my love

To tell you how I feel, my love
mere words could not explain

You make me feel brand new
I sing this song for you
You make me feel brand new
For God blessed me with you
You make me feel brand new
I sing this song for you...

...

so this wasn't exactly requested,
but it seems like it should be up here.

i've never even met you, which is the
best part of our e-rants. and now, we've both
got blogs to email about. imagine that.
do we ever leave our computers? jeez louise.

i once paid a service $10 to connect me
with a pen pal in saudi arabia. we wrote
each other letters for almost four years.
for obvious reasons the letters dwindled,
i think i was around 12 years old at the time.

[boy not requesting:]

Yes the love song blog. So good.
I did a mix CD last year called Irie Radio,
all lovers rock and tender roots reggae.
I bought this record after preparations were underway,
but this Inner Circle cover of the Stylistics
"You Make Me Feel Brand New," is ridiculous.
I'm enclosing it for research purposes.

[my response to this song:]

definitely ridiculous, and worthy
of any cheesy (+) side freelurving mix cd.

and, it's the perfect love song to recover,
no names and just what a girl wants to hear.
caution though, unless she's totally dense
like me in the story i told about the boy
next door, she'll probably think you like her
at least a little, lot, a bit.

Animal Collective: "Winter's Love"

I love this light in winter time,
The frost cakes in the carpet
in winter time we'll have our ways
tombstones the mean belong in
No falls snow falls that ruin my day
It’s masked up from the street wire
and winter’s glow where could she be
She’s warm underneath my pocket
Just a calm and modern day
In early, early morning
Rush to her, and rush to him,
Am I a better person?
even in the whole take on
the loss is better said
I pulled the boy out of above
She made that boy a man

...

requested by one of my favorite people,
so i apologize for taking such a long time
to get this up here, but here you are!

i will have to paraphrase this request,
as i cannot find the email where you told
me the context of this for you,
but i believe
it was to the effect of:

"it's just exactly where we were
at one point in time"

and... i know you have a love
for cakes, so i will venture to say the
reference to cakes in this song entered
your subconscious and added to your lurving
this track. but who am i to say.

Yeasayer: "Red Cave"

I went out past the willow and the well
caught my breath upon the hill

at the edge of the domain
and I went down
and further down

and when I got up,

I'm at the red cave

and with that sound

as if I had been put under a spell

she led me to her abode

despite a winter's day

Mary's house in the hollow of the

white hazel rapid whirlpool

and the church of red cave

I'm so blessed to
have spent that time
with my family and the friends
I love with my short life I have met
so many people I deeply care for

[repeat]
...
so this is what we do with
a
sentimental heart...
someone should let
zooey deschanel
and m. ward in on
this gem of wisdom.

i am most definitely blessed to have

spent all the time with my family and
amazing friends, and especially
the many
random people i have met and
shared brief
moments in strange times
and distant places with.

like the boy from australia that i met
on the bus on the way home from nyc
on
that very cold and windy day and ended
up actually going out with later that week.

or the boy i met at the bus stop in denver
with nowhere to sit and nowhere to find solace

from the hot, hot sun or dust blowing on

my face from the bustling interstate
just
a stone's throw away.

or neverending boy, that i am still
reminded
of by random glimpses of my freelurving
favorite,
"dreams", and other otherwise
insignificant
details of my travels.

great great car song. repeated many times

in mine. makes you want to go places,
but reminds you of the people that really
matter most in your life.
being somewhat of
a gypsy, i know
home is where the heart is,
but
these chance meetings are one of
the
main things that keep me moving.

Jack Johnson: "Dreams Be Dreams"

she's just waiting for the summertime
when the weather's fine
and she could hitch a ride out of town
and so far away
from that low down
good for nothing
mistake making fool with excuses like
"baby that was a long time ago"
but that's just a euphemism
if you want the truth he was out of control
but a short time's a long time
when your mind just won't let it go

well summer came along and then it was gone
and so was she, but not from him
cause he followed her just to let her know
her dreams are dreams
and all this livin's so much harder than it seems,
but girl don't let your dreams be dreams
you know this livin's not so hard as it seems
don,t let your
dreams be dreams
your dreams be dreams

...

here for you on request.
so you better listen to it and
love it as much as i love you,
and as much as you love this man.

you being you know who you are.

and, why was this requested?
straight from the blackberry of
the you know who you are:

just seemed appropriate
for our lives...

and you are so right.
summer comes quickly
and anything is possible.

She and Him: "Sentimental Heart"

Cried all night till there was nothin' more
What use am I as a heap on the floor?
Heaving devotion but it's just no good
Takin' it hard just like you knew I would

[CHORUS:]

Oh, oh, old habits die hard
When you got, when you got a sentimental heart
Piece of the puzzle
And you're my missing part
Oh, what can you do with a sentimental heart?
Oh, what can you do with a sentimental heart?

Cried all night till there was nothin' more
What use am I as a heap on the floor?
Heaving devotion but it's just no good
Takin' it hard just like you knew I would

[repeat CHORUS]

What can you do with a sentimental heart?

la, [who-o-o-o-ooo]
la, [who-o-o-o-ooo]
la, [who-o-o-o-ooo]
la, [who-o-o-o-ooo]

...

i've got a sentimental heart.
why else would i write this damn blog?
and, sentimental heart or not, old habits
definitely die hard... if ever.

i could bore with you my endless list
of bad habits, unforgettable moments, and
undeniable feelings that seem to torment me
way past their expiriation date, but i'd
rather just leave with this track and let
zooey deschanel and m. ward do the talking.
music making.

can you say break up mix cd?
because i know this belongs on it.
would go well with this freelurved
track by rose melberg
.

oh, and something uplifting.
while sentimental hearts make freelurving
even harder than it otherwise would be...
i'm not giving up, i'll remain a romantic,
continue giving my heart to others,
and keep my finger's crossed that it will
be returned one day. i can only wish
the same optimism for the rest of you.

The Knife: "Pass This On"

I'm in love with your brother
What's his name?

I thought I'd come by

To see him again

When you two danced
, Oh what a dance
When you two laughed
, Oh what a laugh

Has he mentioned my age love?

Or is he more into young girls with dyed black hair?

I'm in love with your brother

I thought I'd come by
I'm in love with your brother
, Yes I am
But maybe I shouldn't ask for his name
And you danced , Oh what a dance
And you laughed
, Oh what a laugh
Does he know what I do?

And you'll pass this on, won't you?

And if I ask him once what would he say?

Is he willing?
Can he play?
If I ask him once what would he say?
Is he willing?
Can he play?

Does he know what I do?
And you'll pass this on, won't you?

And if I ask him once what would he say?

Is he willing?
Can he play?

...
a few things on my mind.

one, this track sounds so serious,
like it
should be in some movie where something
almost
apocolyptic is about to happen...
but the lyrics
are kind of comical to me.
what kind of dance?
and what does she do?

also, for the longest time, i thought

"can he play?" was really "can he pay?"

that changed things a little for me.

finally, the main thing i'm thinking about is
how often, when freelurving, we rely on other
people to say the things we cannot seem to say
to the person we need to be saying them to.

sometimes it works... but rarely. and we are
all
guilty of doing this, myself included.

it's taken me years and years to even recognize

the value of being straightforward and honest
when
it comes to relationships, yet it still
takes me
so long to actually say whatever has been
racing
through my mind, over and over, to the
person i need
to tell. fear of being dramatic,
fear of hearing
a response i don't want to hear,
fear of things
changing, fear of making myself
vulnerable... all
of the above are often in my way.

not sure what mix cd you would want this
song on...
but i do think it's good to take
a minute sometimes
to reflect on the things we
have to say that we avoid
and the reasons we want
someone else to say them for us.
i am doing exactly
that today and realizing
i have a few things
that need to come out. and
i think i might finally
be ready to say them for myself.

a note on OVERSHARING

to overshare is a verb in my book.
i'm an oversharer, down with oversharing.

while it's not technically one word,
i feel that
like neverending, it's worthy
of being its
own entity. and would venture
to say it makes
more sense as one word than as two.

...
selective reading of the dictionary
allows the
following interpretation:

like forking over the body, an individual's feelings,
stories, and self are ceaselessly contributed or
allotted in full portions to another person or group

always including the extra, too great, or excessive,

from beginning to end.

an act common among freelurving individuals.
...

selective reading?

the definition of "over" is overwhelming
to
say the least... it is a preposition, an adverb,
an adjective, a noun, a verb (used with an object),

an interjection, and used in a variety of idioms.

there are over 60 entries for "over".

the exciting part, for etymology enthusiasts,

lays in the origin of the word. dating back to
before
900, "over" originated from the old
english variation
"uver(e)". the exciting part, for
freelurving, is that
"uver(e)" is compared to love. LOVE!

the definition of "share" focuses mostly on division,

equal portions, fractional parts, and, not until the
fifth
entry, to use, participate in, enjoy, or receive
jointly.
"share" is traced back to 1325-75 and originates
from the
old english "scearu", which means fork of the
body
or groin... the only thing i really connected with.

to me, "overshare" represents a blending of the
two
words and its origins can, like "uver(e)",
be compared
to love for more information.

there you have it freelurvers.
am i the only oversharer out there?

The Flood: "Sweet Janeen"

O, my unlucky stars
They are aligning in the shape of a guitar
But no one wants to hear me sing
So I think I'm gonna have to starve
Damn all the money lending
Notes are bending somewhere
Soft and sweet
I'm gonna find 'em girl, and if you wanna come
I can't promise anything
But I know you always wanted to learn to sing

CHORUS
Oh my darling, sweet Janeen
Pack up your trunk and come with me
I'm just a loser, sweet Janeen
I just wanna hear the guitar ring

Baby, what's the goddamn point of toiling
When I've got these melodies?
Already shot my soul into these lines
Now I've barely got the strength to breathe
Can't watch the brilliant rays through a windowpane
I'm gonna open it wide
And if you do the same I'm gonna meet you, girl
Down where the river bends tonight
Cuz I don't want no other life

CHORUS

I know you think it's cool
All my books and my words, so lush and true
But I could never be your only one
Unless you're boring too
I've got this crazy dream, but I just need some peace
Are you gonna stick with me
Through all the silent days under my stony gaze
Right now
You've gotta tell me

CHORUS
...

can't really help it.
heart aches a little every time.

i tend to overshare (yes, one word),
but that's all i've got on this one.

i have faith that you are.
so, i have a favor to ask of you.

por favor, comment on this post and
tell me what you want to hear.
the tracks that you put on mix cds.
or playlists, if you don't do cds anymore.

and if you're feeling adventurous,
let me know why that song. the moment
it brings you to, the one
it reminds you of,
who you would play it for.
whatever

muchas gracias mis amigos.

another bettye lavette moment...

so, you know those bettye lavette moments
that i have mentioned more than once?
well, this one just hit me yesterday while
listening to her on youtube. it's so
strange how since day one on this blog business
she has somehow crept up on a regular basis.

...
here me now. ooo girl!
ohhh now now. ooo now.

when you give more than you get

you're in danger
you might find out you're lovin' a total stranger...

danger! heartbreak's dead ahead...

...

not that i've fallen in love
with a total stranger...
not that i know of at least.
but i have definitely been in that
give more than you get situation.
it always ends with my crush reminding
me why they're called
a crush.

have a friend in need of a little
nudge, a gentle reminder, that they
should watch out, that the person they
are lurving now isn't worth lurving
tomorrow? throw this on a mix cd
and nonchalantly play it while you're
in the car with them. music is a powerful
thing, bettye lavette may be what you
need
to get your point across.

[[and, if for any reason you or a friend
is in legitimate danger, like not just
heartbreak... click here for more info]]

The Living Sisters: "Double Knots"

to avoid apologizing again
for songs that are not so lovey-dovey
or uplifting... here is one for the
i heart you mix cd. give it to the
one who ties you up in double knots
and they'll be sure to swoon.

...
ooo ooo ooo
ooooooooooo

i wanna take my baby's shoes off
i wanna sing him a rock and roll
i wanna prove i've got it big
i wanna jump in the water
take off all our clothes

i wanna walk down to the boulevard
i wanna buy a candy bar
i'm going to drink two martini
jump in the fire
i'm gonna get burned

chorus:
my baby ties me up in double knots
[3x]
hey, hey
he's gonna loosen me up

i'm gonna turn my baby's lights down
i'm gonna sing him a sizzlin' soul
i'm gonna prove i'm ready to fight now
wanna jump in the water
take off all our clothes

chorus: [repeats]
...

loving these three girls
and this wonderful song and
its wonderful lyrics here.

so many memories and former flames
wrapped up in this one for me...

like the first night we went out
together and i made you jump into
the freezing cold river from the bridge
by my house. and warmed you up with
a cup of tea in my living room with
a california soul record spinning.

or the night we went to a party up
in that cow pasture and i got my arms
all cut up and burnt myself trying to
prove whatever it was stoking the giant
bonfire and we cleaned up in the river
the next morning.

and finally, on this "warm" by
winter standards sunny day, this
track makes me feel like i'm down
at the boardwalk on a hot summer
night with my beau... not that i have
one or live anywhere
near a boardwalk...
but hey,
a girl can pretend. right?
